THE TSENGLAP TRIBE OF JIWAKA

A Tribal Myth

Ombuna Inland Fish Farm

Ombuna Inland Fish Farm is a village project undertaken by Koiwai Community Based Organisation (CBO). Koiwai CBO was registered as a vehicle to assist local villagers get involve in activities that can sustain their livelihood. One of the first projects initiated was construction of fish ponds to cultivate Inland Fish Farming.

Koiwai CBO Chairman Paul Yapedam said, "Inland Fish Farming will remain viable project. This project comes with two great benefits: one, fish can be sold and generate revenue for members, and two - fish is a alternate source of protien." For so long, people have been consuming pork and chicken meat, but now fish can supplement this diet.

Benefits Of Inland Fish Farming

Dieticians encourage people to eat fish as alternate source of protien. People in the Highlands consume pork, beef, chicken and the imported Lamp Flaps. Consuming too much pork or chicken meat is discouraged by many dieticians.
