About Tsenglap Tribe!

Baimankanem people are part of Tsenglap Kupuskup. They are descendend from Karap's son Kupus. It must be noted that Baimankanem, Dangekanem, Kombilikanem and Kumukanem are brothers. There was no intermarriage before, however today population has increased and so there is intermarrige and divisions within these clans. The Baimankanem clan has two sub-clans, they are known as:
- Baimankanem Oldkanem
- Baimankanem Tambemkanem
Baimankanem Tambemkanem live at Indu One near Ambang Mission Station. The Tambemkanem also live at Binzku, Gusamb Gana, Tolu and Kisap. Former Provincial Politicians, Steven Kambiye and Paul Kerenga Ansphill come from Baimankanem Tambemkanem.
Baimankanem Oldkanem sub-clan live at Koimba popularly known as Koiwai. Oldkanem people are scattered all over Tsenglap area. Oldkanem people live in places such as Tolu Point, Mandhang, Kumbaning and Maliu towards the Wahgi River. The traditional singsing grounds for the Oldkanem is at Koimba Village. Popular Jiwaka singer Tony Banga is from Oldkanem sub-clan of Bamankanem.
There is also a sub-clan within Baimankanem clan known as Kuwul Ngalim and they live at Ambang. Pioneer JW religion convert from Wahgi Area, Mr. Joseph Kupie is from Kuwul Ngalim sub-clan of Baimankanem.
A former Telikom PNG Board Chairman and Captain of B767, late Capt. Peter Ansphill comes from Tambim Ngalim sub-clan of Baimankanem clan of Tsenglap.
