Tsenglaps Embrace Christianity

Tsenglap Tribe has associated herself with the Christianity Religion since colonial days. After the exploration of New Guinea Highlands by Jim Taylor and the Leahy Brothers, came the missionaries. Inside Tsenglap territory, the first Christian church was established by Catholic Church at Ambang Village. The Catholic Church estalished Ambang Catholic Mission and Ambang Community School in mid-1960s. After Catholics, came the Lutherans. Lutheran missionaries established their churches at Kendu, Mandhang and Tupa villages.

Evangelical Brotherhood Church EBC came after the Catholics and Lutherans into Tsenglap tribe. Following closely behind the EBC, came the Nazerene Church. The EBC (known as Swiss Mission) have their headquarters at Kugak, and Nazerene have their headquarters at Kudjip, both in South Wahgi District. Today inside Tsenglap territory the EBC and Nazerene have spread far and wide, they have more church buildings inside Tsenglap than other church denominations.

Christian Churches in Tsenglap

Starting from 1980 and leading into 1990s, was a period regarded as: religious boom in Tsenglap territory. Many Christian Church Denominations came and established their churches in Tsenglap territory. Today a number of Protestant and Pentecostal churches have their presence in Tsenglap, prominent ones are: Seventh Day Adventists (SDA), Withnesses of Jehova (JW), PNG Bible Church, and New Apostolic Church. More recently, The Revival Centres of Papua New Guinea (Revival Fellowship) have established their House Meetings at Kerowil and Tolu villages.
