After thirty six (36) years of Independance, the wishes of the Jiwaka People has finally come true. On Thursday the 17th of May 2012, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Rt.Hon Peter O'Neill officially declared Jiwaka as Province of the Indenpendant State of Papua New Guinea.

At the official ceremony held at Minj, the Prime Minister lowered the Western Highlands Provincial Flag for the last time, and at the same time raised the new Jiwaka Provincial Flag for the first time. It was a memorable event as many people from all over Jiwaka turned up for the occasion.

The Jiwaka People will for the first time elect their own Governor in the 2012 General Elections. At the same time, the Prime Minister also opened the Highlands Regional Office of Urbanisation also at Minj. The People of Jiwaka will now have to work hard to bring up their new province.

The people of Jiwaka will now have to put away their own interests and work for the common good of the new Province. Let's forget about which clan, tribe, council, electorate, we come from. We Are One People, We are Jiwaka. With this mindset, a one united people with one vision and purpose, we bring this new province forward

Have a nice day today !
