Jiwaka Bride Price
The AmbKolme Ceremony of Jiwaka
Amb Kolhme: This is the Bride Price Ceremony in the Jiwaka area. The Amb Kolhme event will take place straight after the Amb Gharu. The Amb Gharu and Amb Kolhme are both part of the Bride Price ceremony. The Amb Gharu takes place in the night (bride price eve) and the Amb Kolhme takes place during the day. During the Amb Kolhme, the groom's relatives will pay the bride price to the bride's parents. There will be exchange of foodstuff, pigs and clothings.
The village chiefs from both sides will make some speech. The bride will be dressed in full traditional Wahgi regalia. Finally, the groom's clan will move towards where the bride is with singing and dancing. Two strong men from the groom side will carry the bride on their shoulders and away they will come. There will be singsing and shouts of jubilation as the bride is carried away by the man's relatives.
